Moringa Irrigation

Family: Moringacea, monogeneric, 13 species.
Origin: Southern Himalayas.
Height: 10 – 12 m tree.
Root: tuberous, pivoting, several meters deep.
Growth: very fast, 3-5m the first year.
Longevity: 20 years.
Climate: Tropical arid and semi-arid.
Optimal Pp. of 500 to 1,500 mm.
Resistant to drought.
Tm opt. of 18.7 to 28.5 oC
Does not tolerate frost.

Soil: PH from 4.5 to 8.
Well drained.
Prefers sandy loam.
Does not tolerate waterlogging.
Withstands brackish water.

Irrigation: Drought resistant but susceptible in the seedling stage, so regular irrigation is recommended in the first two months after planting. In arid conditions flowering can be induced through irrigation, the frequency of application may vary according to soil type, being lower in heavy soils with high moisture retention and higher in light soils.
