Irrigation of Blueberries

These shrubs have roots that tend to be superficial around 30 centimeters. Therefore, we are going to use small flow rates (2l/h), since they do not want waterlogging but the soil to be moist. For this reason, the irrigation schedule will be short and abundant irrigations. It will be advised to irrigate 5 minutes 6 times a day, which would give a daily contribution of 1 liter.

Blueberries should have a good supply of irrigation during the spring and summer months, leaving only the autumn and winter residual watering to maintain moisture. During the spring and summer months we recommend the daily watering that we discussed above.

They have high evapotranspiration, which favors the use of localized subway irrigation. Our advice for newly planted blueberries is 1 dripper of 2 l/h per bush separated from the trunk about 30 centimeters, although we could also put 2 DeepDrop® of 2 liters every 30 centimeters, in this way we would cover a radius of 60-70 centimeters. For blueberries of more years we will place 2 without hesitation. Normally the soil is sandy, and they usually cover it with a blanket. This is not a problem for our system.
