Nectarine Irrigation

The nectarine is moderately demanding to irrigation. Although there are many hectares cultivated in rainfed cultivation, in the Mediterranean area, very limited in rainfall, its cultivation practically only occurs in irrigated conditions.

The traditional system for irrigating nectarine trees is drip irrigation, using 2 drip lines parallel to the main trunk, 4 drippers per tree and a flow rate of 4 L/h per dripper.

In the warmer months, irrigations are practically daily and of long duration.

Nectarines, if irrigated when they are close to fruit maturity, can be affected by cracking of the epidermis which greatly reduces the commercial value of the production.

In the following table, we present an irrigation proposal with the DeepDrop® irrigation system. For this we have taken into account the number of trees, their age and the climatology of the area (Murcia) in “normal” conditions of each season.
